Elena Espinosa visit the sewage treatment plant in Los Alcazares in the MARM has invested a total of over 21 million euros (08/07/2009)

The Minister for Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM), Elena Espinosa, visited the Station Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Los Alcazares, whose total investment exceeds 21 million euros.

The plant in Los Alcazares, which is in testing period, is located in the same location as the existing one and solves the problems of bad discharges purified the Mar Menor by saturation of the former sewage treatment plant in summer dates, which had become obsolete for loads and flows to it.

The new treatment plant occupies an area of approximately 51,300 meters square and has three lines of treatment suitable for 40,000 people each.

The benefit is equivalent population of 120,000 inhabitants and to purify the volume is of 22,500 cubic meters per day, both in high season.

In addition, facilities are planned to expand in the future, this flow up to 30,000 cubic meters per day, which means it would benefit a population equivalent of 160,000.

Have also designed two collectors to collect water from the basements.
