The City Council will take the proposal for the Declaration of Regional Tourist Interest of the Day of the Virgin to Plenary (16/11/2020)

The proposal, which will be put to a vote in the next plenary session on November 24, is the last requirement to be able to send the file to the Regional Government. Next Tuesday, November 24, the proposal for the Declaration as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest of the Maritime-Terrestrial Procession of the Virgen de la Asunción will be held in plenary session, which has been held every August 15, since today 90 years. The content of the file promoted by the Department of Tourism and Beaches of the City Council of Los Alcázares, and which will be sent to the Department of Tourism, Youth and Sports of the Region of Murcia, contains several reviews ranging from the creation of the image, throne and commemorative hymn of the Virgin, until the formation of the Brotherhood and celebration of this day, among other aspects. Also included in the report is the promotional work in terms of merchandising carried out by the Hermandad de la Virgen de la Asunción; and the tourist promotional material carried out by the Department of Tourism and Beaches.

In addition, mention is made of the impact that the celebration of this day has on the different regional media of written and digital press, television or websites such as the Murcia Tourist portal or Murcia Region. The tourist aspect is not lacking in the dossier.

Thus, there is a retrospective, through graphs and tables, of the considerable increase in hotel occupancy during these days in the last five years; the number of visits to the Los Alcázares and Los Narejos Tourism offices requesting information on this festivity or the report prepared by the Los Alcázares Civil Protection Chief Coordinator on public assistance along the different sections that the land procession runs through , which can gather more than 22,000 people on the part of the route that goes from the Church to the access of the Los Alcázares Military Base, and about 40,000 throughout the entire procession. For the Councilor for Tourism, María José Díaz, this celebration "is the most important day for all Alcazareños and neighbors and is undoubtedly a great tourist attraction in the town, since it brings together a large influx of visitors and faithful who come from different points of the Region to enjoy this event, this resource going directly associated with the consumption of other tourist services in our town such as bars, restaurants and hotels ". On the other hand, the mayor of Los Alcázares, Mario Cervera has declared that "the culmination of this file is nothing other than doing justice to one of the most important days of our municipality.

To the maritime procession, which takes place on 15 August in our town thousands and thousands of people come both from the Region of Murcia and from different parts of Spain, faithful to this great festival that we celebrate in Los Alcázares.

Today, the Los Alcázares City Council proposes to declare it of Regional Tourist Interest ".
