The Los Alcázares City Council will assume the cost of its own ambulance after the suspension of the agreement with the Murcian Health Service by the CARM (06/07/2020)

| Mayor Mario Cervera has communicated this decision at a press conference and has commented that: "a life is worth more than 145,000 euros that the service costs "| In 2018, the Murcian Health Service (SMS), and the Los Alcázares City Council, then led by the previous Corporation, signed an agreement for the presentation of public health emergency assistance by which the municipal ambulance service remained subject to the new tender for ambulances of the Autonomous Community. The town had an ambulance service run by Civil Protection through a subsidy at a cost of 145,000 euros, but currently this subsidy has been rescinded, since the CARM has tendered this service, managing the ambulance SMS, with the inconvenience that the ambulance may be in another municipality, increasing the waiting time for the ambulance to arrive in Los Alcázares. And, the wait for an ambulance from the Murcian Health Service is not the same as if it had its own service, and that the Health Center currently has a reduced service, when the population reaches 60,000 inhabitants in summer. The Councilor for Health, Gema Garate, explained in this regard that "waiting times on average go from 5 minutes to even 15 minutes." The mayor Mario Cervera, explained in a press conference that "without a doubt this situation worsens even more if possible, the health service of the municipality, which is the responsibility of the CARM." For this reason, understanding that health is a priority for this municipal government, it has decided to assume with its own resources this service, which is so essential and valued by Alcazareños. Agreement signed in 2018 According to said signed agreement, "the suspension of this agreement will not mean a decrease in the services provided to the citizens of this coverage area, nor the decrease in the assigned resources", therefore, mayor sources explain that the CARM It has not complied with said agreement, since the ambulance that until now made the assistance notices was in the town itself, reducing waiting time to a minimum, and currently this same service is provided from San Javier and Torre Pacheco. As the mayor has commented, in recent months he has held meetings and conversations with the Minister of Health and the manager of SMS, requesting that "a historic demand be made a reality, such as the launch of a 24-hour SUAP in Los Alcázares , which would provide a solution to the problems and we are also the only tourist municipality that does not have it.

" The citizens receive now, a service until 15:00 in the afternoon, and the second residents and tourists from 09:00 to 21:00.

Cervera clarifies that "with this service, the harmful situation that we have so far would be solved". Cervera concluded by saying that "a life is worth much more than 145,000 euros, and despite all the inconveniences that we have, I will not allow any neighbor to be in danger and have minimal health services guaranteed."
