Los Alcázares has suffered 3 floods since September and remains unanswered by the Administrations (21/01/2020)

"Since 2016 the residents of Los Alcázares have had to go through more than six alerts for torrential rains, in total five floods our municipality has suffered, of which 3 being I mayor in which numerous homes, garages have been affected, shops ... an insecurity that the neighbors show every time it rains, and not because of the water that falls from the sky to the fortresses but because of what it rains in the areas above. I am, we are fed up of the responsible Administrations "wanting us" luck, but don't give us solutions. "

This is how the mayor of Los Alcázares started the press conference he gave a few minutes ago to the media to expose the situation in which his municipality is in the middle of the alert that has caused the third flood since September.

The City Council has activated this morning the level 1 emergency of the Emergency Plan of Los Alcázares by the storm that has already caused the zero zone of the town is again flooded.

The emergency service of Los Alcázares and the rest of the security forces are taking charge of the situation after the plan created yesterday by the "Crisis Bureau" led by the councilman Mario Cervera.

The pre-emergency phase had the various municipal competition devices activated together with the consortium for firefighting and rescue in the Region of Murcia.

"From this morning the extraordinary contribution of water that the municipality is receiving upstream from the area of Torre Pacheco, Balsicas, the Rambla de la Maraña, Los Infiernos, etc., was known and this has led to the decision to suspend any educational activity in Los Alcázares and City Council administrative, "explained Los Alcázares Emergency Manager Sergio Gil.

At the moment they are working on the 43 streets affected and cut off to traffic, 15 emergency agents of the Civil Protection service together with 20 firefighters of the Consortium and 4 Forest Brigades that add 25 more people, 20 road operators, 4 officials that they are taking care of tasks of great importance, 22 people from the urban solid waste collection service, Urbaser, 10 people from the municipal water service, two public works companies in the municipality that have working in the area of the arrival of water With 4 backhoes and numerous specialized vehicles to reinforce the emergency.

From emergencies, they explain that up to 140 telephone calls have been answered in the Security Center to know information, and that the yellow alert has been extended until 00.00 today, therefore all the alerted devices will be kept and working to solve the emergency in the different streets.

A brown river runs through several significant areas such as the Municipal Sports Center, Los Luisos Street or the Military Base.

The session is attentive to the temporary, which will be the one that will mark the following emergency plan actions in the next few hours.

As on the other occasions, the City Council will have to start assessing damages once again, and clean mud again, repair streets, gardens, replace traffic signs among the dozens of necessary things that a flood entails.

This week the Department of Public Roads and Parks and Gardens was repairing the last areas victims of the floods of December 2, and now will be forced to start and the City to generate a new expense that can not assume.

So far there have been the eviction of two people, but it is still early to know the extent of damage to homes, basements and public buildings.

Mayor Mario Cervera has spoken openly at the press conference offered and explained that "the relevant administrations know the solutions and it is not about overflows of ramblas as they say, it is about rambles without a channel, this is the only truth."

He has continued saying that "how many times does this have to happen? How many times do our houses have to be flooded? Our neighbors can't take it anymore, they can't stand the fear they suffer every time it rains, this is not a matter of politics, but justice for the rights to a quiet life for the Alcazareños. The local representative has asked himself "how many floods do the Alcazares have to suffer in order to receive me the president of the community, López Miras?", since he still does not receive it from who took office as mayor in June despite having suffered two other floods since then, the first on September 12 and the second on December 2.

The mayor has commented that "from the town hall we are doing everything we know, what we can and everything that is in our competition, even assuming risks that come out of our powers, it is time for the Administrations to portray and citizenship see if they care about people. "

Cervera has finished expressing that "I ask once again that the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura and the Autonomous Community leave their battles aside, throw balls outside and assume their responsibility, and put solutions to the municipality of Los Alcázares.

The Mayor has also conveyed a message of tranquility to the residents of Los Alcázares saying "it is a difficult situation but without a doubt all together we will manage to end this great battle until justice is done"
