The acting Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has chaired this morning the signing of an agreement between her Department and the City of Los Alcázares in order to strengthen collaboration with the General Air Academy (AGA), located in this municipality, and promote the Culture of Defense in the area.
“This is the beginning of a collaboration that already exists, but that still has to be much greater.

Today a first step has been taken.
The Army and all citizens of Los Alcázares should know that, despite the bad times, it is always reborn and continues to fly high, as does the Army, â€said the minister.
“For that we will all work and we will continue walking in that proximity that is so necessary to make great projects, so that the Culture of Defense is known and so that this town is once again an example, which it already is, in the Murcian community, â€said Robles.
The head of Defense has explained that, due to the trips she has recently made to the area, she has been able to verify the links that exist between Los Alcázares and the General Air Academy.
"That Academy that has suffered so much, but still has students excited to be members of the Air Force and are so close to citizens," he said.
The document, which has been signed by the Chief of the General Staff of the Army of the Air, Javier Salto, and the mayor of the municipality of Murcia, Mario Ginés Pérez, intends to lay the foundations for promoting different
actions between the Air Force and the session to consolidate the town as the cradle of hydroaviation in Spain.
The agreement contemplates the study of options for guided tours at the General Air Academy, organized by the council itself, and that the public can know its facilities.
The objective is to familiarize citizens with this military center and its historical links with Los Alcázares.
In addition, the agreement includes the possibility that some of the AGA facilities that, currently have no assigned use, can be assigned to the town hall for cultural use and be able to install a music school that houses the municipal band.
With this project, the municipality intends to increase its relevance due to the historical nature of these military installations and to face society as a reference for Spanish military aviation, in addition to fostering the good relations it has traditionally maintained with the General Air Academy .
"This first agreement is a great milestone for Los Alcázares and an opportunity to resume the great relations that existed many years ago between the town hall and the General Air Academy," said the mayor of this municipality, Mario Ginés.
He also thanked the Ministry and the Air Force for their willingness to collaborate with the locality.
For his part, the director of the Military Air Academy, Manuel de la Chica, stressed that “it is a privilege and an honor to work at the service of citizens and, specifically, with Los Alcázares, since the base has located 105 years there.
The logical thing is that we open it for citizens to enjoy. â€
The Ministry of Defense considers that these initiatives, as long as they do not harm their daily operations, can contribute to spreading the aeronautical or defense culture and can contribute to maintaining and improving the state of the infrastructure, roads and gardens of the facilities.
Also present at the ceremony were the Secretary of State for Defense, Ángel Olivares, and the Government delegate in Murcia, Francisco Jiménez Jiménez.
The town of Los Alcázares was one of the most affected by the latest torrential rains, as the minister could verify, in situ, in her two visits to the municipalities affected by the floods.
