The Regional Assembly unanimously approved the motion of support for Raiding parties Berberiscas obtain the Declaration of Regional Tourist Interest (26/02/2015)

The three parliamentary groups yesterday showed their support in the Regional Assembly to the City of Los Alcazares parties to the Berber Incursions in the Mar Menor obtain the Declaration of Regional Tourist Interest.

The group voted unanimously a motion filed by the PP in supporting these parties.

During the debate, the popular Francisca Cabrera made a review on the start of these festivities, held in 2000.

Cabrera and recalled that the Barbary pirates were Muslim pirates who served in North Africa and engaged in assault boats traveling along the Western Mediterranean.

One of the forms of protection adopted in the Mar Menor against these invasions was to build towers coast to monitor the pirates and protect the area.

To commemorate these actions, the City of Los Alcazares decided in 2000 to promote these festivals, which are complemented by a program of leisure activities during Holy Week.

"Seeing the roots of these parties and the economic boost it poses to the municipality's time to start the process to get the Declaration of Regional Tourist Interest" stated the popular.

The PSOE, Antonio Martínez Bernal agreed with the proposal of the popular.

"We fully support the statement because we understand that these activities have many positive situations," he said.

In addition, the socialist parties explained that "should serve to protect cultural heritage and helps citizens to know the history," he said.
