The Civil Guard seizes 178 kilos of fish from catch furtive (14/10/2014)

The owner of the establishment has been denounced for violations of state and regional fishing regulations

The Civil Guard has had the support of the Directorate General of Livestock and Fisheries in the Region of Murcia

The Civil Guard in the region of Murcia, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Livestock and Fisheries of the Region of Murcia, has developed the 'ANCHOA operation' aimed at preventing the sale of fish caught illegally, and that has meant location, in a commercial establishment in the municipality of Los Alcazares, 178 kg of various marine species devoid of compulsory health documents for sale and in some cases also with abnormalities as to the minimum size required.

The proceedings were conducted by specialists SEPRONA Civil Guard and inspectors Fisheries Service of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, who have made several inspections in commercial establishments engaged in the sale of fishery products, in order detecting fish holding acquired through illegal channels.

These inspections have borne fruit with the identification of a commercial property in Los Alcazares, which have been located and confiscated seven different species of fish, not having been accredited legal origin and assumed his alleged acquisition through direct purchase occasional fishermen or poachers.

They are about Mar Menor prawns (Penaeus kerathurus), gold (aurata aurata), bream (Diplodus sargus sargus), red mullet (Mullus surmuletus), bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus), octopus (Octopus vulgaris) and round sardinella (Sardinella aurita).

Capturing some of these species is subject to closure periods and minimum size regulations and prohibited their capture certain gear.

Sale to the public without proper health checks can be a health hazard, since the supervisory here must be done when the products are legally established channels (auction) is circumvented.

The operation has resulted in the seizure of 178 kg of fish of different species and four processing administrative complaints to the Law 3/2001, of 26 March, the state Marine Fisheries, the Law 2/2007 offenses of 12 March, Marine Fisheries and Aquaculture Murcia, Decree 91/84 of 02 August, the Fisheries Regulation Mar Menor and the Royal Legislative Decree 1/2007, of 16 November, by which the revised text of the General Law for the Defence of Consumers and Users and other complementary laws.

The parts seized were destroyed when being unfit for consumption.
