The Community joins the City Council of Los Alcázares in the commemoration of the floods of December 2016 (14/12/2017)

The general director of Citizen Security and Emergencies, José Ramón Carrasco, and the mayor of Los Alcázares, Anastasio Bastida, today presented the celebration of the Volunteer Day, which will take place next Sunday in the town of Marmeno as a tribute to those who participated in the work of rescue and restitution of the normality of citizenship during the December 2016 floods.

Carrasco recalled that "it is about providing the recognition they deserve to those who faced, exceptionally, a situation of absolute exceptionality, as were these floods," and stressed "the perfect harmony and coordination of local, regional and national troops in this situation of emergency, which prevented that waterspout from having greater consequences than it had ".

The director general of Citizen Security and Emergencies stressed the fact that all administrations "turned from the first moment in helping the victims, preserving, above all, the safety of the people, carrying out more than 500 rescues and managing 2,348 cases of emergencies related to the storm, especially in the Mar Menor area and more specifically in the municipality of Los Alcázares ".

He also recalled how the work was articulated in which 1,700 professionals from the emergency corps and hundreds of volunteers or professionals from the different administrations were mobilized so that the affected areas could recover normality as soon as possible.

And he said that the Government of the Region of Murcia "will be present at these events, because we are aware of what Los Alcázares meant for this very serious episode of rains and floods, the extent of the damage suffered and the costly recovery work It has also been carried out, but also because we want to join in the gratitude to those who with their generous delivery demonstrated that the coordinated sum of efforts makes the response effective and did not put a fee on the time dedicated to using their solidarity with this people and their peoples".

Activities

The events next Sunday in Los Alcázares will feature an exhibition of means and resources for emergency care in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, as well as a photographic exhibition about the events of December 2016. At 12 there will be read the manifesto of the Volunteer Day, which will be followed by the interventions of the authorities present at the event, concluding the day with a giant paella.

There will also be inflatables for children and a Christmas decoration workshop.

Subsequently, already in January, an institutional act of recognition will be held for the groups participating in the floods of 2016 and the inauguration of the sculpture of the volunteer will take place.
