López Miras: "The Military Emergency Unit is professionalism, humanity and heart" (13/10/2017)

The President of the Community, Fernando López Miras, praised the work of the Military Emergency Unit (UME), which he said "is more than professionalism, it is dedication, humanity and heart" and recalled the "important work" that made their troops after the floods of the 19 of December that affected to several municipalities of the Region and, especially to Los Alcázares.

"It was not just about protecting property, infrastructure or communication routes, it was about helping people and saving lives," said the regional chief executive, who gave the UME the 'Al-Kazar' award during the ceremony which commemorates the constitution of Los Alcazares as a municipality in 1983.

López Miras referred to the EMU as "one of the most active units of the Armed Forces that, in only twelve years of life, has achieved the admiration and affection of all Spaniards."

He said that "today we recognize something more than unity, we recognize each of the professionals that make it up," and stressed that "being part of our Armed Forces requires internalizing values, capacity for sacrifice and dedication that are beyond any doubt ".

In this regard, the president had words of homage and memory to the captain of the Air Force Borja Aybar, who died yesterday near the Los Llanos airbase in Albacete, after participating in the parade on the occasion of the National Holiday Day in Madrid.

"He prevented his plane crashing into civilian population," said Lopez Miras, who said that "his act is an example and a reference that we will not forget."

Los Alcázares celebrates 34 years as a municipality

The head of the regional executive stressed that Los Alcázares is "the youngest municipality in the region, whose institutions have been born and lived all their history in democracy."

Thus, he recalled that in this 2017 the municipality turns 34.

Since 1984 the municipality of Los Alcázares has awarded the 'Al-Kazar' award to individuals, institutions or groups that have excelled in their work, in sports, in the arts or in research, putting in value the name of the municipality.

On this occasion, the distinction fell on the Emergency Military Unit and, in addition, three other awards were granted to residents of the municipality to which Fernando López Miras congratulated for his work.
